I began this post as a catch up of sorts as I haven’t posted anything in a while. But as I wrote the title my mind went elsewhere.
It’s a weird time. COVID is all anyone talks about now and rightly so. It’s a big deal. My 3 year old has integrated it into his prayer. Life has changed and everyone, well almost everyone, is doing their part to stay at home and stay healthy. Essential workers are now heroes, as they should be. People are losing their jobs while other big businesses are profiting from handouts. The world is very different than it was earlier this year and I think we’re all different as well.
People seem more concerned about each other. “How have you been” is something I hear quite often whether that’s in a text, email, video chat, or phone call. And for the first time in a long time, people seem to respond in a genuine way, like they need to talk and be heard. People ask as if they want to hear. There’s a sense that we’re all in this together, because we are.
I hope we come out of this thing healthy, first and foremost, but also with a bit more compassion, understanding, and grace than we had 6 months ago. I hope we learn to slow down. I hope we have more patience. I hope we learn to live with less. I hope we hold our loved ones closer. I hope we take better care of the earth. I hope we learn from this.
Me? I’m blessed. I have a healthy family. I have food. I have shelter. I’m learning from this.
Hello, how have you been?
